I had to use up some leftover ingredients from the cover so I made a layer of chocolate cake. I sliced it into two semicircles and then sandwiched them together with strawberry jam. I then covered the cake with chocolate ganache and added smarties in a rainbow pattern.

21st Birthday Cake for Jon
My second attempt! A little more tricky this time, I did a "21" cake for my gorgeous boyfriend's 21st birthday. The number 2 was victoria sponge with buttercream and raspberry jam in the middle, and the number one was Felicity's famous fruit cake. The number 2 was cut out from a large rectangular cake which was a lot of fun! The spare cake went into making the champagne bottle and the cork (and possibly the small present with the key on it.) The fruit cake started life as a square cake, and the number 1 was actually done in two halves. Fortunately with the fruit cake, if you made a mistake, you could squish the cake back into place very easily, for example we didn't like the angle at the top of the one, so we squished some fruit cake back into it to make it more curved. It worked surprisingly well! The leftover fruit cake then went into making the smartie-covered "present". The cake was decorated with rolled out royal icing and various Jon-themed decorations. I fashioned a saxophone out of marzipan, and in the beer mug I put golden syrup and some icing on top to make it look like beer with head, I made a squash racquet out of spare royal icing, and the music staves were done on extra rolled out royal icing just in case they were to go wrong! The "happy 21st" were made out of white, milk and dark chocolate. Overall I was very proud of this cake and I look forward to my next challenge!
